60's around the bay, 70's inland. let's check in with gianna na. chp has issued a wind advisory for the pass. if you are in a high profile vehicle be careful through there. this is that area of 580 as you head toward the dublin. we are seeing brake lights. this is an area -- this time of the morning and it stays this way until at least after 8:00. slow and go conditions out of tracy on 205. sluggish at least to north flynn. that's where you have the b, lk of the brake lights. tr34 minut 205 toward 680. east shore, highway 4 and 101 out of the south bay highway 4, 680 connector. we are following breaking news overnight in the east bay where a gunman opened

fire on a party bus . the driver went to the police substation. >> that's where we find kit who is live with more on this ongoing investigation. >> good morning. it's a quiet but active crime scene out here. i want to pan to the right and show you several dozen friends and family out here waiting for information. a lot of them getting emotional. if we look to the left here the alameda county medical examiner vehicle is here. the coroner is here so that leads us to believe there is a death connected to this event. we are working to confirm that. the driver kept his wits about him and went to the safest police he could think of and that's here to the mall. he pulled up to the front door of the police station. techs looking for clues. take a look at this map. it shows the various locations where we saw crime scenes. 67th and foothilla run around

the corner. all three locations are close to each other. the chp kept 580 closed for nearly two hours. we saw officers searching for evidence with their flashlights. c hp not yet confirming the connection of deaths to this shooting. there was a father on board the bus who said they were celebrating his daughter's 21th birthday with other family members. one the daughter was hit in the leg and is expected to survive. the bullet holes and shoot certified glass we see them mostly on the driver's side and it gives you an idea of the evidence they went through just a couple of hours ago. we have unconditionalwith looks like traffic is still looked.

that's the latest from oakland. quick update on a fire we brought you last night. a two alarm fire just before 11:00 p.m. on wheat street. this is off bayshore boulevard in san francisco right next to 101 and it's video from citizen app showing emergency crews there on scene. firefighters were able to get it out. they were having trouble with active fire in the walls. . a live look at concord high school this morning that as we are -- vaccine also be available to students. it is one of the first in the rotating series of clinics available at contra costa county schools for students 12 and older. clinics are open today through saturday. the county superintendent of schools said in a statement it's critical that the campus communities have easy access to vaccine and

health information. every student who receives a vaccine is a hero who protects themselves and their family, teacher and friends. walk in vaccinations for anyone 12 and up are now available at frick united academy of language. the clinic will open again tomorrow. there's also a free clinic today at sfo. the airport is teaming up with safeway to provide the shots inside the international terminal starting at ten. on the road to recovery this morning. california nurses are praising the state's decision to hold off on adopting new cdc mask guidelines. the state said that current restrictions will remain in place until at least june 15th. the california nurse's association said that loosening mask mandates right now would put health care workers at risk. >> i won't wear my mask. i have been vaccinated.

briefing on current conditions. officials from the two largest water district s e up a nebraska man is due in court. police say adam price murdered his children. the 3 and 5-year-old's bodies were found on sunday in price's home in bellevue, nebraska. investigators say the children's mother called police when their father didn't check in with her. no word on how the children died. officials say the deaths are being treated as suspicious. happening today the dublin city council is set to meet to extend the funding period for bike and pedestrian bridge over a popular trail. the 230-foot long bridge will crossover duin connect two stretches of the iron horse trail. councilmembers need to extend the seven million dollars funding terms because of delays in a nearby project to extend a road. bridge construction could start later this year. even though california is

. a an original report. the giant redwood trees may be our biggest natural ally in tackling climate change. more on the efforts from the national park service and save the redwoods league. >> the beauty of this place is that it's such a blend of accessible wildness. you expect to hear him talk about saving redwoods but on our walk above oakland sam was actually talking about how redwoods can help save us. >> they are just machines at taking in carbon. that means they pull carbon out

the atmosphere to make wood. as we know they never stop growing. they did grow to be over 2,000 years old. >> that is why old growth redwoods like these store more carbon per acre than any other forest in the world. we have a million and a half acres of redwood. the challenge is very little of it actually looks like this anymore. from big sur to oregon only 5% of the orange 2,000-year-old giants are left mostly in national and state parks on the north coast. here it was all logged at one point. everything you see is that second generation of redwood. it turns out that is where the real opportunity lies for this project. researchers looked at five trees and found they were putting on carbon at a faster right than even the old ones. they are only a century old but

they have something most recovering for eves don't. elbow room. forest is pretty open. that means the trees recover faster and they have a bigger appetite for carbon. >> in a human lifetime a redwood forest that's left to grow and allowed to grow to maturity is a great resource in the fight against climate change. >> up north two thirds of the parks looks like this. decades after being clear cut. the trees are all the same age, over crowded, carbon storage light. so the national park service are getting to work, selectively thinning oumo old logging roads. turnforests li this in s moreke is and setting a course to be couming heavy weig if we look at the 9200 acres of restoration underway those redwoods will eventually be able to store

3.5 million-tons of carbon. the same amount as 2.5 million cars would emit over the entire year. the long term goal is to restore 70,000 acres in the park. if we scale up our numbers those redwoods will be able to store the same amount of carbon produced by 19 million cars over a year. for perspective, that is more than the total number of cars on the road in the entire state of california. >> the rates of carbon removal in the second growth redwood forest are extraordinary. e. it's not only people in the comm benefits. one woof time looking budgets for. >> they are a huge opportunity to pull carbon out of the atmosphere and store it for long periods of time. they are part of it. >> it's probably the people on

out of there. this is near old lakeview. you may see some brake lights or issues or that closure. westbound 580 getting slow. if you are getting ready to get on the freeway, headed on the 580 commute you have brake lights out of tracy. westbound 205 connecting onto 580 itself and i it extends to just about north flynn. definitely slow before that and if you are taking 84, down into the road we have brake lights building as you head into the sonell grade. 680 though clear in both directions and there is a wind advisory for that drive in to the pass. let's get a look at traffic through the south bay and say good morning to san jose commuters. you are good too go. the commute direction. there are no brake lights. guadalupe parkway checking in problem free. we haven't had any issues in

south bay. here is your travel time. north 101 to sfo. 36 minutes. if you are taking that westbound 580 ride give yourself about 36 minutes 205 toward 680 and the east shore freeway and highway 4 all clear right now. it's 5:18. time to check the forecast. we are looking at the sunshine and this morning what a difference compared to yesterday. you can see something on the sales force tower camera as you can see the golden colors in the sky as we look across the bay to mount diablo. you can see some patchy fog out there. not as fogged in as we were yesterday for many locations. looking at the 40's and 50's. 53 in concord, oakland 52. san francisco 51. also for san jose and43 for santa rosa. 13 in concord and 21 in

fairfield. winds are gusting up to about 41 through the pass if your commute takes you there. be prepared for that. we are looking at areas of fog and partly, partly nothing like yesterday. still breezy with that on shore flow but warmer and more sun expected for today as we look to tomorrow. thursday, stronger winds expected with the low pressure bringing in that on shore flow. cooler temperatures through the rest of the workweek. as we take you hour by hour on future cast you can see that sunshine this afternoon and that will be the case for wednesday as well. let's talk about our winds. we are going to continue to see those strong westerly winds. they will get going for us even more for wednesday and for thursday. you can see the color contours in to the purple for tomorrow and that really indicates those stronger dnand ursday. chk it out.

we have brake lights on to 580. extending to just beyond north flynn. no accidents so that's the good news but the travel time already at 39 minutes from 205 toward 680. also a crash in lakeville involving a big rig at lakeville highway near old lakeville road. the east moment police substation where a night of fun and celebration ended in violence. that's where a gunman opened fire on a party shuttle bus. the bus is still here and we are just a few step away from grieving family and friends waiting for updates. we can see the coroner's vehicle is here as well which tells there is a death connected to the shooting and we are working to confirm that with police. everything happened with in close proximity. there's a crime scene just west of the highway 13 junction and opd officers were

states including new york have relaxed mask guidelines following the cdc's change in guidance last week. with a loosening of guidelines there is concern over enforcement. for many businesses it's a wait and see approach. >> problem is they have no way of telling who is who. if you start having unvaccinated people who are not wearing a mask in an indoor, poorly ventilated space there is still a lot of coronavirus around. that's a risky situation. >> as vaccination rates rise positive cases, deaths and hospitalizations continue to plummet nationwide. the seven day national average of positive cases has dropped about 87% since january. a live look at oakland whereas coronavirus rates go down travel rates are up. oakland international is banking on that big increase in travel as the industry recovers from the pandemic. the airport is now eyeing plans

for a huge expansion. the plans include merging the two current terminals in to one and then building another brand new terminal in an area that's used for parking cargo. construction would kick off in 2025 and wrap up around 2028. >> we are pretty confident that air travel demand will grow with the future. we need to modernize the terminals and be prepared for that. >> the tsa said its screened more than 1.8 million passengers on sunday. the highest since march of last year. travel also up on the roads. aaa predicts more than 34 million will be driving to their destinations over memorial day weekend. that's compared to nearly 23 million last year. this morning house speaker nancy pelosi will lead a news conference about the coronavirus hate crimes act. it is geared toward improving the tracking of hate crimes by the justice department and providing more resources for a response. the bill has cleared the senate and is up for a house vote later today. this as the san francisco china

year. it is part of the president's american rescue plan. families will receive up to $300 a month for every child underage six. they will get $250 a month for children ages 6 to 17. the first and second families have released their tax returns for 2020. the president and first lady say they earned a little more than $607,000 last year. they paid about $157,000 in taxes. vice president harris and the first gentleman reported earnings topping $1.6 million. they paid nearly $622,000 in federal taxes. scams on the rise as the popularity of digital currency grows. americans have lost more than $80 million since october. that's increase of a 1000% from the fall of 2019. >> and a lot of people may have gained a few pandemic pounds. update life in the new normal. >> man.
